The Sydney Rowing Club coaching team is well qualified to provide comprehensive year round guidance in training on and off the water. This process is enhanced by the use of up to date methodology and technology. Each squad is carefully selected to ensure the athletes train with other athletes of comparable ability. This provides the best environment for training and encourages improvement among all members. Once an athlete achieves a high standard he/she may move up a squad to gain access to harder training and more intense coaching. This ensures that the progress of athletes is monitored carefully in order to get the best out of each individual. The programs offered range from the elite squad who typically row five mornings per week, with three weights sessions per week, ergo, cycling and running sessions in the afternoons to the junior squad most of whom are between the ages of 14 and 17 and are still at school, these athletes typically row once or twice a week, at whatever times fit in with their school rowing commitments. A recently implemented Talent Identification Program is aimed at introducing the sport to teenagers who do not attend a school that offers rowing as a sport. The TIP program takes those athletes who show natural talent and gives them the opportunity to take the sport to whatever level they would like, while still remaining flexible around their other commitments. The club also offers full support to any member who achieves Australian representation. This may come in the form of the club using its facilities to hold fund raisers to ease the burden of cost to the athletes and their families. Support could also come in the form of advice from fellow club members who have competed at a high level. These club members can assist any athlete with any problems that he/she might be experiencing before a big event such as the Junior World Championships, The Nations Cup or World Championships. As well as dedicated and experienced coaching; the club offers the best available equipment. As well as owning a great variety of good boats the club has recently purchased four Empacher pairs and an Empacher eight. The club constantly updates its fleet. Sydney Rowing Club is devoted to the well being of the athlete and seeks to provide a structure and atmosphere where the skills of crews and individuals can develop to the highest level. If you are interested in trying out for any of these squads, contact Head Coach Gary Robertson at the Club on 02 9712 1199. |
