Here is a message to club supporters from Mick Daffy: The results from Henley were good. The quad was defeated in the Semi-finals by the eventual winners. The four made it through to the Quarter-finals but just failed to take the next step. A good performance by both crews when we remember that they were each racing about 50 crews from all over the world. Thank you to all those who supported the crews.

Our next big challenge is the World Junior Championships. In the Australian Junior Coxed Four SRC is represented by Kurt Spencer and Alex Berzins and are coached by our Development Coach Glenn Bates. Most of you know Kurt, he has been rowing for the Club for the last four seasons, while Alex has been competing for us for the last 2 years.

Sydney Rowing Club again competed at Henley Royal Regatta. We had two crews competing, the Fawley Cup Quad and the Wyfolds Coxless Four. Result are on the Henley Royal Regatta Website.

Recent Equipment Purchases

The Sydney Rowing Club Board of Directors has recently approved the purchase of two new coaching punts and two new ‘Honda’ four-stroke outboard motors. These punts are ideally suited for transporting on the club boat trailer to off site training venues such as Penrith. The outboard motors are significantly quieter than the two-stroke motors, making it easier for the Coach to communicate with the athletes on the water, and also more economical and environmentally friendly to operate. This brings Sydney Rowing Club one step closer to having all four-stroke motors for the coaching fleet.

Four new single sculls club racer series have been purchased. The supplier is Ausrowtec. These boats have been named after four members who have given outstanding service to Sydney Rowing Club – Ernie Chapman, John Langley, Bill Mison, and Dorothy De George.

Other purchases have included four concept 2 ergometers, one dynamo, weight benches, four exercise bikes, and a four metre coaching boat with four-stroke 15H.P. motor.

The Club has donated three single sculls to developing northern clubs through NSWRA.

Dallas Smith (Boatmaster).
