Gary Robertson
Hailing from New Zealand Gary won gold at the 1972 Munich Games. Gary has held the position of head coach at a number of clubs and schools in New Zealand achieving great success. Gary’s passion for the sport and coaching methods have made the Sydney Rowing Club boatshed really hum since his arrival and we are looking forward to great success under his guidance.
Glenn Bates
Glenn comes to the Club after completing a successful stint as head coach at UTS and as coach of the Australian Under 23 quad for the 2007 World Junior Championships. Glenn has taken on the newly created role of Development Coach and is charged with bringing in and developing young talented oarsmen and women to form the elite rowers of the future.
Michael Morgan
Michael’s record in both rowing and coaching is truly remarkable. In addition to winning countless state and national titles he represented Australia as an athlete at two successive Olympics, winning silver at the 1968 Mexico Games. He went on to his third consecutive Olympic representation as Coach of the eight for the 1976 Montreal Games. Michael was appointed the first professional head coach of the Sydney Rowing Club and went on to set a record for the most National Championships as a coach in a single year. He is widely regarded as the most successful school coach of the last 25 years.
Stephen Handley
Stephen experienced great success as an athlete winning state and national titles for the Club and gaining Olympic representation at the 1980 Olympic eight at Moscow. Steve has also experienced great success coaching school boys and girls rowing as well as at the Club level.
John Bailey
John coaches many of our junior crews and has been involved with the Club for a long time. John has recorded great success at the club, state and national level as a coach.
